Another day, another pyramid! We drove three hours one way from San Ignacio to visit the Maya ruins of Caracol. It was a very slow and bumpy ride, but in the end it was worth the trip. In it’s prime, Caracol was the home to more then 140,000 Mayas. Those little tiny figures in the first photo are my kids. That gives you an idea of the immense size of these man-made rock structures. Tristan had a good crawl once we were on the top of Caana, the largest building. It was a maze of stone with hidden rooms and pathways. This would be a great spot for a game of hide-and-seek :-)
On the way home we stopped at Rio On Falls. It is a beautiful, clean water-hole and is a perfect place to cool off after spending hours climbing up and down steep, stone steps. Some of the rapids are perfect water-slides and the waterfalls make for the best natural back massages. I think we could have spent all day there. It seems as if people are drawn to water, not only for life but also for fun! I know I am. Just another one of God’s beautiful creations. Signing off in Belize, Tina
Gorgeous! I’ve lived and written about Belize for a few years now and I haven’t been to either of these. Inspiring…
