DISCLOSURE: I received WordBuild for free and was compensated for my time. My opinions are honest and I am not required to post a positive review.
Reading equals learning. This is important. We noticed Taylor, age 12, needed help with reading comprehension. Since we homeschool, I searched online for a program and I found WordBuild. It looked fun and the learning process seemed unique so we tried it.[clickToTweet tweet=”Try WordBuild now to help your child with reading comprehension and receive a 10% discount!” quote=”Keep reading for a 10% discount off WordBuild! After several months I am happy to say, “It’s working!” How do I know? Because one evening at our Bible meeting Taylor turned to me and said, “Can you tell that I doing better at understanding the big words when I read?” Yes!! We could see her improvement in reading comprehension.
Does that mean your kid will love WordBuild? Not necessarily. Our girls complain about doing their lessons and their father and I say, “Too bad. Do them anyway.” Another parent once told us, “Your kid isn’t always going to have a choice. Sometimes we must do things we don’t like. It’s part of life.” Truth.
So despite the complaining, they are learning reading comprehension with the help of WordBuild. Just today Alexis, age 13, started reciting the “-ology” words with her 4-year-old brother. You know, biology, theology, and so on… That is how WordBuild works. The following is directly from their site so you can read for yourselves how it works:
If you are looking for a highly effective way to improve reading comprehension in just 10-15 minutes per day, then WordBuildOnLine is for you. WordBuildOnLine is based on morphology, the study of units of meaning – roots, prefixes, and suffixes. There are no memorizing word lists and students think it is fun!
WordBuildOnLine makes it easy by not requiring you to do any teaching. We deliver the content in a way we know works, so you are free to work with your other kids or go about the daily tasks of living! Progress updates are emailed to you on a daily basis, and you have the option of logging in to see more detail – or not.
Each level of WordBuildOnLine is designed to last one school year by providing one activity each day. WordBuildOnLine takes 15 minutes or less each day. In fact, a timer does not allow a student to spend more than 15 minutes on any activity. If you have an older student trying to catch up, he can do two activities per day (separated by as much time as possible) to accelerate the learning curve.
WordBuildOnLine even automatically adjusts the level of difficulty of the content based on student performance!
Here are some screen shots of our WordBuild account so you can get to know the site a little bit for yourself.
WordBuild is part of Dynamic Literacy. There is more information concerning their method of teaching vocabulary and reading comprehension on their site so I encourage you to check it out.
