Bible Ministry in Mexico – Tasty Grasshoppers, Cute Pigs, & More

A big part of our life in Mexico is our Bible ministry. Bible Ministry in Mexico, (previously Bible Ministry Adventures),  is an ongoing series featuring sights and surroundings from our missionary work abroad. Our family of six resides in Southern Mexico and we spend a large amount of time in our community looking for people that speak English and would like to know more about the Bible. This gives us a tremendous opportunity to mix with our beautiful Mexico surroundings and to learn about Mexican culture and tradition. Signing off, Tina

PS Keep in mind most of these images are taken with a smartphone or a tablet. Not exactly professional equipment ;-)

Help me continue my photography and writing by sharing this post :-) Thanks!

Alexis is eating her first grasshopper. I tried one too. Our friend had bought a bag of dried grasshoppers seasoned with chili and lime. They are supposed to be high in protein. Honestly, they didn’t taste bad. Kinda crunchy like a chip!

Just another roof dog. Very few families have yards in the city so the dogs reside on the roof during the daytime.

One of my favorite places to eat. The smoothies are wonderful!

Cows and horses roam freely in the suburbs. I guess they know their way home :-)

We go everywhere in the city. This road is not easily passable for all vehicles so we walked it.

I’ve met quite a few Americans doing Bible ministry work here in my little Mexican hometown. Although it’s not as rural as the one you show in the pictures, there are a lot of familiar sights- roof dogs, flowering vines spilling over the walls, the bicycle ice-cream guy. No farm animals, though. Who took the pics of you and your hubs? They’re pretty great.

I am not in any of these photos but I think you are referring to my daughter :-) I took all the photos, well except for some of the cow ones! I almost forgot. Alexis, my daughter took those images :-) Thanks, Fabiola!

I am thinking of moving to Mexico and joining in on the Bible Adventure work…I need pointers on where to live. I am on disability so I don’t have much, but I have been contemplating moving near Vera Cruz since my spouse passed last December. His family resides in Coaltzacocas. Got any pointers for me? Where I should live, any info is helpful! Thanks! By the way I remember you n your family.

Shina, this is a broad question :-) Do you speak both languages? What part of Mexico do you like? What type of climate do you like? Do you want to serve where the need is greater? If you can prayerfully narrow it down a bit that would be helpful. I know you can contact many congregations on our website and you can write the branch and await a letter from them. You are welcome to email me personally at tina@gringoslocos6.com. I wish you the best in your endeavors!
