Santa Clara del Cobre is a small town in Michoacan, Beautiful Mexico, that is famous for copper, (cobre means copper). The native Purépecha people in this area are skilled in coppersmithing and you can find copper goods and crafts in abundance here.

Santa Clara del Cobre has an annual copper festival in August and it was named a Pueblo Mágico, (Magic Village), in 2010. That is an honor for any small town in Mexico and it probably is a good addition to your Beautiful Mexico bucket list :-)

There are little artisan shops all over the city. This one had a copper still for making booze! I just couldn’t get a clear shot of it :-(

Several shops didn’t want photos taken of their goods. Not sure why… I would be proud to spread the news!

The best part was being with my family in Santa Clara del Cobre.

Since posting this I have had several questions about where a person can find these copper town artisans and their beautiful crafts. Well, the best way is to visit Santa Clara del Cobre! If you are planning a trip, check out some of the shops on Google HERE. Signing off, Tina

How Did I miss this magical place? I’ve been many places in Michoacán, including so close to there in Quiroga, Tacámbaro, Zirahuen, Pátzcuaro & La Isla de Janitzio, where they speak Tarásco, & have delicious fish platters all over. I really would have enjoyed going there very much. I even spent some time in Zacapu & Panindícuaro, & met so many lovely people everywhere I went!!!! Absolutely wonderful people there! I even met an .American lady who lives in Zacapu, married with 3 sons. So many wonderful memories of my many, many trips there. Thank you so much for sharing such beautiful photos. I loved those huge copper doors!

De nada Robin! My pictures don’t do the little town justice. The copper work is pretty amazing. I need to update this post because we took another trip there earlier this year and one of the shops was giving demonstrations. We were able to see the process of how they form the copper. I even got a video of it :-)
