If you visit Uruapan be sure to save time for an afternoon at Parque Lineal de Camelina, located right next to the Uruapan National Park near Centro. We didn’t know this Uruapan park existed until recently and we spent a couple of hours exploring this beautiful place with our family…. By the way…. It’s FREE!
And maybe it’s not hidden, but it definitely isn’t as popular as the Uruapan National Park. There are at least three entrances and all of them are easy to miss if you aren’t looking at this Uruapan park. Our family considers it to be just as pretty as the Uruapan National Park but much smaller in size.
One of the entrances is handicapped-accessible. This is the entrance across the street from the San Pedro Fabric Factory. You won’t be able to go very far in a wheelchair but at least you will get a peek at the river and a couple of pretty waterfalls. This spot is a great place for pictures.
Actually, we liked it so much we are getting ready to return this afternoon with our visiting friends from Ecuador. We’ve made this part of our “tour beautiful Mexico with the Ernspiker family” series ;-)
This is one entrance near the National Park. If you are standing in front of the National Park looking at the street you will take a right and walk down the street to a set of steep stone steps. Follow those to the bottom and enter the park.This pretty old church is between the National Park and Parque Lineal. We usually park our truck near it on the street.
Alexis, our oldest, being silly but I liked the shot so I am sharing it ;-)If you enter the park here and take a right you will be walking towards the National Park.
The National Park is on the other side of this fence. When we took our friends from Ecuador yesterday, the bridge connecting both parks was gone! I don’t know whether they took it down or it washed away. Either way, the gate is locked between both parks so you can’t use this entrance anyway.
Many old homes overlook Parque Lineal. I would love to hear the rush of the river at night. I think it would put me to sleep.There a two or three little homes across the river at this spot within this Uruapan park. If you look closely you can see a little girl in pink atop the stairs near her home. She is probably wondering why we were on her bridge :-)

You can follow these steps out of the park if you want to see more… It loops around and will meet up with the same path you came in on.Despite how inviting the water looks, especially on a hot day, there are “No Swimming” signs posted in most locations.
Little man was done walking at this point :-)I discovered that this is a hotel! The courtyard looks so pretty with the flowers and pool. I was thinking Brad and I could have a getaway there and not even leave the city ;-)

Hi again i forgot to mention i will be arriving in Uruapan dec 2nd very soon hope to get bus at the Mexico City airport bus terminal to either Morelia or prefer directly to Uruapan
Awesome! We met a lot of Mexican Americans here visiting their families over the holidays. I actually met a lady today from California with four kids who is visiting family :-)
Oh my goodness I have seen the entrance tk this park for years, but never entered! My family always used to scare me with stories of local news that happened there, but now that I’m older and see how gorgeous it really is I think I will go there when i visit in January. Thank you for sharing some gorgeous pictures of my birth town! Have you gone to Quiroga to eat carnitas? If buying anything i recomend asking locals for the “bodegas” they are about 2 blocks from the main street and you get everything for waaaaay cheaper.

We have two Starbucks but La Lucha is a more authentic option. Uruapan has a few of those :-)
We will be on vacation at the time you are arriving but we will be back in town around the 11th.
And I hope the air quality is suitable for you! Right now I hear they are spraying the avocado orchards… You should visit Patzcuaro while you are here too. It’s 45 minutes away and you may like it!

I go to Uruapan every five months now to visit family. What will you be doing?
I will just be visiting for the day from Villamar. I want to go to the park, of course, but would love input on most see/do/eat places!
