We spent some time in Palencia, Belize. It’s a two and a half hour drive from San Ignacio. We traveled via the Hummingbird Highway and the Southern Highway. There are many sights to see on the way. Colorful schools, fancy homes, and banana farms. The sun was hiding when we hit the beach. Seagulls were flying above us, the kids made some Belizean friends, and Alexis found a dead fish that she proudly shared with everyone. We finally had to threaten the girls to drop the fish or else, before they would let their prize go. Creative Miss Taylor made a sand castle and Tristan gave mommy a big smile for the camera. Can’t wait to frame that one :-)

Brad and I went back to Palencia another day to snorkel with the Whale Sharks off Gladden Spit. We went out with Seahorse Dive Shop. They were professional and nice folks. The trip out was very rough but it did not bother me. Then we stopped to snorkel and the boat started rolling…. ughhhh. I jumped into the water and the seasickness was better for a little while but we were still bobbing up and down, up and down. Finally, I couldn’t take it anymore and my seasickness overcame me. I barfed in the ocean :-( It was awful until the Dramamine started working. However, I decided not to go back out after lunch for the second snorkel trip. I stayed on the party boat and chatted with people from California, Oregon, and Germany. That’s where we saw the pod of dolphins playing in the water. They were beautiful! Unfortunately, we did not see any Whale Sharks on this trip. They cannot guarantee sighting them. They were deep in the ocean, far below us. The divers did catch a glimpse of one. We did see a few thousand Jacks. I never saw such a large school of fish! We also played with a Sea Turtle swimming beneath our boats on the reef during lunch. I slept on the way home. The ride back to shore was much calmer. I am still dreaming of Whale Sharks. I just found out that they also visit an area in Cancun on their migration…. Signing off in Belize, Tina
